Confidentiality & Privacy

Your privacy is central to the way I work. As a registered psychologist, I am bound by the Psychology Board of Australia’s Code of Conduct, the Australian Privacy Principles, and all relevant NSW health‑records legislation. This page explains how your information is collected, stored, used, and protected, and the situations where confidentiality has limits.

Your Information Is Private

Everything you share with me in session is treated with care and respect. I only collect information that is reasonably necessary to provide psychological services, and I do not disclose your information to others unless you give consent or the law requires it.

What Is Confidential

Information you share in therapy—including your history, concerns, progress, and personal details—is confidential. This includes written notes, assessment results, correspondence, and any information gathered from associated parties with your consent.

I will always explain how your information is used and answer any questions you may have.

Limits to Confidentiality

There are specific situations where I may be legally or ethically required to share information without your consent. These include:

  • Risk of harm: If there is a serious and imminent risk to your safety or the safety of someone else.
  • Legal obligations: If information is subpoenaed by a court or required by law.
  • Child protection: If there are concerns about the safety, wellbeing, or abuse of a child or young person.
  • Mandatory reporting: Where required under NSW legislation or AHPRA obligations.

Where possible, I will discuss this with you before any information is shared.

How Your Information Is Stored

Your records are stored securely in accordance with NSW Health Records and Information Privacy Act requirements.

  • Electronic records are stored in secure, password‑protected systems.
  • Paper records are kept in locked storage.
  • Only authorised personnel involved in your care can access your file.
  • Records are retained for the legally required period (7 years, or until a young person turns 25).

Sharing Information With Others

Information is only shared with your consent. Examples include:

  • your GP or psychiatrist
  • other treating practitioners
  • schools or support services
  • NDIS providers
  • insurers or funding bodies (e.g., Workers Compensation, Victim Services)

Before sharing information, I will explain:

  • what information is being shared
  • why it is needed
  • who will receive it

You may withdraw consent at any time.

Telehealth Privacy

If you choose to use Zoom for sessions:

  • please ensure you are in a private space where you cannot be overheard
  • use a secure internet connection
  • consider using headphones for added privacy

Accessing Your Records

You have the right to request access to information held about you. In most cases, access can be provided unless:

  • it poses a serious risk to your safety or someone else’s
  • it would unreasonably impact another person’s privacy
  • it is restricted by law

If you would like to view or request a copy of your records, please contact me and I will guide you through the process.
